Dance beyond borders for art explora european award 2023!

In partnership with Counterpoints UK and Athens Comics Library, Dance Beyond Borders are delighted to announce that they are among the 19 shortlisted projects of the Art Explora – Académie des beaux-arts European Award 2023! This Award rewards European cultural organizations which develop a programme that enables new dialogues between arts and audiences.

They will collaborate on "Different pasts, shared future"; a varied artistic programme bringing together refugees and host communities in the United Kingdom, Greece and Malta through dance, comedy and superheroes that will form part of Refugee Week 2024; the International Festival that celebrates the creativity, contributions and resilience of refugees and people who seek safety.

The project in Malta will be 'Would you like to Dance with me?' led by performance artist and activist Mohamed Ali (Dali) Aguerbi which invites passers-by on the streets of Valletta to join a one-on-one performance. A performer who is a refugee or is seeking asylum locally will welcome a stranger to share an intimate moment together; as they dance to a piece of music and move to its rhythms, for a few minutes, they are united.

Dance Beyond Borders are competing for a reward of €50,000. The Audience Choice Award will also reward the winning initiative with €10,000.
