Bridging the Gap for a Better Giving Sector.

In 2025, the Academy of Givers wants to reiterate its commitment to bridging the gap between the business sector and the NGO sector, as a way of contributing to the growth and betterment of the Giving Sector in Malta.

For this reason, the Academy has officially launched Act for Impact, a flagship mentorship programme designed to connect our members and business leaders with NGOs. The programme was born from the need to continue building NGOs’ capacity and know-how, and it aims to facilitate meaningful relationships where businesses share their expertise, skills, and resources to empower NGOs, fostering sustainable growth and long-term impact.

With this collective effort from our members, we aim to strengthen NGOs by equipping them with knowledge, tools, and strategies for improved operational and social impact, as well as enabling businesses to get a deeper understanding of the role of NGOs and actively engage in social change beyond financial contributions. This will further enhance collaborations between the private and voluntary sectors to address pressing societal challenges, ultimately fulfilling the Academy’s primary goal, which is fostering a culture of strategic giving and social responsibility among business leaders.

How does Act for Impact work?

  • Tailored Mentorship Matches - Business members will be matched with NGOs based on their expertise (e.g., finance, marketing) and the NGO’s specific needs. After a first introductory meeting, where gaps and needs are discussed, the NGO and the business shall mutually agree on goals, expectations, and timelines.
  • Flexible Commitment - Business Mentors will be able to contribute based on their availability, keeping in mind the NGOs’ needs and their availability. Options for remote or in-person mentorship to accommodate different schedules are granted.
  • Capacity-Building Focus - Topics covered can include, but not limited to, strategic planning, impact measurement, fundraising, digital transformation, financial management, and leadership development.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation - Clear objectives are set for each mentorship pairing after a first introductory meeting, with progress tracked by Academy of Givers through periodic check-ins with both parties and feedback collection. The Academy provides ongoing support to ensure the mentorship achieves its goals.
