Notarial Archives Foundation
The Notarial Archives Foundation is a not-for-profit, voluntary, non-government organization bringing together researchers, academics and other interested citizens with the aim of supporting the Government in its brief to preserve for posterity the rich collection of notarial deeds kept in the Notarial Archives of Malta.
The NAF aims to ensure that the rich collection of notarial documents, a vital primary source for all aspects of historical investigation over the past six hundred years, is preserved and protected in a professional, efficient and accessible manner for future generations of researchers. The Notarial Archives constitute an outstanding primary source for historical investigation and provide proof of an uninterrupted series of daily activities from the late fifteenth century to date. Consequently, they shed light on various laws, customs and traditions which moulded Maltese society throughout the centuries, and not the least on the evolution of legal history and practice. The NAF envisions the transformation of the Notarial Archives into a leading centre of scientific research which will be fully accessible to both the local as well as the international research community.
