SKOP - The National Platform of Maltese NGDOs
The Platform works towards a just world where basic needs of all are met, where people are empowered, where there is equity in the management and distribution of resources and where human rights are respected.
SKOP is Malta’s National Platform of Development NGOs. Set up in the year 2001, the Platform brings together Maltese Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) involved in development and relief overseas and/or in the provision of global education – hereinafter referred to as Non-Governmental Development Organisations (NGDOs).
SKOP works together with and in favour of its member-organisations towards a just world where basic needs of all are met, where people are empowered, where there is equity in the management and distribution of resources and where human rights are respected. It offers capacity building, provides a forum for consultation and co-operation between its membership and facilitates their individual and united advocacy on development issues, social justice, human rights and inclusion.

Financial assistance for SKOP needed URGENTLY
SKOP is Malta's main platform for VOs involved in international cooperation for sustainable development. These VOs work towards alleviating overseas poverty through various methods, including sending volunteers. Additionally, SKOP represents the few NGOs that focus on global citizenship education (GCE).
Global education is a pedagogical approach that fosters multiple perspectives and the deconstruction of stereotypes and builds on a learner-centred approach to foster critical awareness of global challenges and engagement for sustainable lifestyles. Global Education competences build on development education, human rights education, education for sustainability, education for peace and conflict prevention and intercultural education, all being the global dimension of education for citizenship.
Moreover, SKOP hosts two Working Groups, namely AidWatch and the GCE, which bring together NGO activists, members of academia, educators and experts to work together on policy analysis, monitoring of implementation and putting forward recommendations to improve relevant government policies and practices. The above links are just two examples of the outputs that these Working Groups produce. The AidWatch report of 2023 analyses EU MS performance of ODA and you will find country pages for each MS, including Malta. These Working Groups also link up with European-level advocacy groups similarly made up of experts and NGO representatives.
In fact, SKOP is also a founding member of CONCORD Europe (https://concordeurope.org/) and of FORUS International (https://www.forus-international.org/en/). Representatives from some of our members engage in working groups hosted by these two federations, contributing to their advocacy with EU, UN and other multilateral or intergovernmental institutions.
SKOP is excited to announce an upcoming two-day interactive Workshop tailored for its members and for VOs working in international development and Global Education. The Workshop, entitled "Empowering Our Network," will be divided into two sessions as follows:
- SESSION 1: NEEDS ASSESSMENT AND STRATEGIC DIRECTION:
This session will focus on outlining members' needs, sector trends, and providing recommendations on SKOP’s strategic direction.
- SESSION 2: NETWORKING, ADVOCACY AND COLLABORATION:
This session aims to empower SKOP members with advanced skills in networking, advocacy, and the importance of collaboration to strengthen collective action and have a unified voice.
The workshops will take place at the Valletta Design Cluster on the 20th and 21st of June in the evenings. Dinner will be provided each evening to encourage networking and discussions. The training will be provided by Mediacoop’s John Mallia.
Given SKOP'S limited reserves, they wish to receive support from corporate member who might have within their priorities the assistance of national networks that are investing in synergy-building and increasing the collaborative capacities of individual VOs.
Below is a breakdown of the costs:
- Trainer fee: 2 training sessions of 4 hours each @€450 + VAT for each session: €1062
- Dinner after each workshop @€25 per person, excluding drinks and 2 waiters. Average tentative cost of: €2,000 (depending on the number of registrations)
