Navigating Malta's Economic Transformation: Insights and Strategies for Sustainable Growth
Join Deloitte Malta for an engaging and thought-provoking panel discussion on Malta's economic journey over the last decade and the ambitious goals ahead as set out in 'Vision 2050'. The Maltese economy has seen extraordinary growth, with GDP increasing by 153%. Despite a stable indigenous population, immigration has significantly boosted the resident count by 31%, leading to a robustly expanded labour force.
Our panellists will delve into the nuanced narrative behind these statistics. The discussion will focus on the economic, demographic, and social implications of this growth, and the challenges Malta faces on a path toward sustainable development. Key points will include the impressive rise in tourist arrivals, the extraordinary influx of EU and third-country nationals into the workforce and the impact of these changes on GDP per capita, resulting in stresses on education, health care and other vital services.
The distribution of GDP must also be taken into account. Despite Malta’s obvious economic success at a headline level, there are disparities that need addressing. Currently, 48,968 individuals are ‘materially deprived’ and 159,485 cannot afford a one-week holiday away from home each year. As Malta prospers, it is imperative to ensure that no one is left behind in this pursuit of economic success.
